Vine Hotels has announced that The Old Rectory in Handsworth, South Yorkshire, which joined the hospitality and hotel management company earlier this month, will be re-opening as a premium wedding venue this autumn.
The Old Rectory (www.theoldrectoryhandsworth.co.uk) is a beautiful grade two listed stone building in Handsworth on the edge of Sheffield and is a popular wedding and events venue. Earlier in the year, it faced an uncertain future after the independent charity running it was placed into voluntary liquidation, but Vine Hotels now plans to refurbish and relaunch this historic venue to accommodate weddings and events of up to 200 guests for a buffet and 140 for a banquet dinner.
In addition to interior upgrades in the Main Hall, décor refurbishment and the addition of new lighting will take place in the two further Georgian period rooms, which are ideal for more intimate celebrations. The Orgreave and The Ballifield can accommodate up to 50 guests and 15 guests for a banquet style dinner. Couples will also be able to hold both their wedding ceremony and reception at The Old Rectory, as the venue has been granted as wedding licence.
Vine Hotels CEO Garin Davies said: “Tucked away in its own quiet grounds this former rectory offers all the benefits of a quiet countryside locations, but with the convenience of close by transport links and Sheffield City Centre nearby. The Old Rectory is a delightful period property that has huge potential to grow as one of Sheffield’s premium wedding and event destinations. We will bring our expertise in venue management and operations to The Old Rectory and restore it to the thriving venue we know it can be.”
Father Keith, Rector of St Mary the Virgin, Handsworth said: “We were delighted to agree terms for Vine Hotels to take over the management of The Old Rectory. Not only were we impressed by the company’s credentials in hotel and venue management, but we were drawn to their personal approach demonstrated in how sensitively they have managed similar properties. As well as the team’s desire to stay true to the historic character and community appeal of the Old Rectory. “
Vine Hotels is owned by former director general of the BBC Greg Dyke and chief executive Garin Davies, former divisional director of BDL Management and main board director of Best Western GB. The Old Rectory is the fourth property in a year to join the Vine Hotels portfolio of owned and managed venues, such as recent additions the Charlecote Pheasant, Stratford, Bredbury Hall, Stockport, and The Dartmouth Hotel and Spa, Dartmouth. The group also includes the Best Western Cresta Court, Altrincham, the Mercure Southampton Centre Dolphin Hotel, Southampton and five properties in Sheffield including leading wedding venue, Whirlow Brook Hall.
